Top 5 Home Decor Trends for 2022

By Sara Antonuccio
Every new year brings opportunities to reinvent your life, from your habits, to your wardrobe, to your home. When it comes to bringing your home decor up to speed with the year’s emerging trends, take a look at these ideas:

Mismatched Bedroom Furniture

Bedroom sets are moving aside in favor of a more eclectic look. Instead of your bed frame, dresser, and nightstand all having the same design, pick out each piece separately and let them play off each other. A vintage dresser with a contemporary headboard? Why not? Or what about different wood finishes on each piece? How about getting mismatched nightstands that reflect the personality of each side’s sleeper? Anything goes!

Earthy Colors

2022 is all about communing with nature, and that means bringing the outdoors in with nature-inspired tones like blue, green, and brown. Darker hues are more desired, as they create a moody but relaxing atmosphere that’s both elegant and easygoing. Accent furniture in earth tones adds hints of this aesthetic, but if you want to go all in, repaint a room in deep blue or forest green. Start with an accent wall if you’re not sure about your choice.

Eye Catching Drink Trolleys

Once we’re back to hosting dinner parties and family get-togethers, you can bet we’re all going to make up for lost time. A feature of sitting rooms that some associate only with the upper middle class is making its way into living rooms everywhere, and that is the drink trolley. Living room bars and drink trolleys are fun additions to homes that often see many guests coming and going, and even if your home stocks them with non-alcoholic beverages, they’re attractive additions to an environment made for being social.

Houseplants Galore

Remember, nature is the defining theme of 2022. Once you’ve incorporated some earth tones, turn to the real deal. Bring in some greenery with easy to care for houseplants like lady palms, string of pearls, jade plants, and rubber plants. Just be sure to check whether or not the type of plant you want to bring in is toxic to your pets or children first. Greenery fits in everywhere, from living room corners to bedroom nightstands, kitchen counters, and even hanging from the ceiling.

Unexpected Wallpaper

Wallpaper isn’t just for walls. It’s also for doors, cabinets, and dresser drawers. Think of a place you wouldn’t expect to find wallpaper, and see if adding something with a fun pattern or design accentuates that area. Of course, if you want to stick with the traditional usage, don’t be afraid to go bold. Lifesize, immersive designs can take a room to the next level. Think nature scenes for the bedroom and large, neutral-toned botanicals for living rooms and sitting areas.

It doesn’t take a lot to completely transform your home. Some new paint here, a bit of wallpaper there, and a few unique furniture choices can take your space from cookie-cutter to one-of-a-kind in no time.
